Outdoor Weddings: Are They a Risk?

As beautiful as outdoor weddings are, they can of course come with risks, with the biggest of those being the weather. When you choose a date for your outdoor wedding, you are ultimately taking a gamble on what the weather will be like on the day. Even during the peak of summer we can experience rainy days, and this is something you always need to be mindful of as well as prepared for. However, there are solutions and alternative arrangements that can be made.

Outdoor weddings are really special and often boast a stunning location, so it is not surprising why people opt for this and love the idea of an outdoor summer wedding. But, as amazing as they are, they do carry an element of risk, and you should be aware of this before booking anything and making any arrangements.

They may not always be as you envision

The idea of planning your outdoor wedding is incredibly exciting. From choosing the summer colour schemes, to viewing the perfect picturesque location of where you plan to tie the knot, it soon becomes very easy to get a vision in your head of what the day will be like. However, there are certain obstacles that could mean things are not exactly as you had in mind on the day.

Whilst this is generally quite rare, it can happen, and you must understand and be aware of this. The primary reason of why this might be the case is due to the weather. Of course, you would like a nice, calm, sunny day for the event, but this is never guaranteed. Furthermore, even if it is still sunny, you could have a bit of a breeze meaning that your guests are chilly, or there could’ve been some heavy rainfall the day or night before so the setting doesn’t quite look perfect.

Despite these risks, most of the time outdoor weddings are just fine and go ahead with the happy couple feeling extremely satisfied and pleased with the outcome.

It’s good to have a plan B

Although outdoor weddings rely quite heavily on the sunshine and nice weather, there is a possibility that you will not get this on the day. Therefore, it is always good to have a plan B when it comes to outdoor weddings. For example, you may have a big tent to house all of your guests and have decorated nicely as to still provide a stunning setting. Though this may not be ideal, you can still have a beautifully decorated, natural looking location for your wedding.

Be aware of the risks

As long as you are aware of the risks when planning an outdoor wedding, there shouldn’t really be any problems or anything that takes you by surprise. As we have discussed, you can prepare for potential bad weather, but not only this, be aware of the environment you are getting married in. If it is outdoors in quite a natural setting, there is a chance that nature could interfere a little bit, or on the other hand, perhaps you are planning a big beach wedding abroad. If this is the case, know that you could be faced with a bit of a sea breeze, as well as the sound of waves lapping in the background. As long as you are aware of all potential elements of your outdoor wedding, you can’t go wrong!

Be prepared

Having an outdoor wedding on a lovely, hot summer’s day sounds like the perfect idea, and it is, as long as you are prepared and can accommodate your guests. If it is a really hot day, you need to think about having plenty of refreshments on hand, as well as cooling and shaded areas for your guests. This ensures that they are kept happy and comfortable throughout the day.

You should also be prepared in terms of facilities. If the whole day is hosted outside in an outdoor, natural space, there may not be electricity. Therefore, you should find this out early and be prepared in terms of taking your own generators and lighting so that everything runs smoothly and you could even have a bit of live music!
