The time of year in which you have your wedding is significant for more reasons than one. The main thing is the season. Some people like to have their wedding themed to match the season it is being held in. For example, summer weddings may take place outdoors with floral, summer themes running through the decor, or perhaps on a beach in a nice hot country. Every wedding is individual and unique, but theming the day in accordance with the season puts a really nice touch on it and allows for extra creativity and exciting ideas.
As we are just about coming into autumn, we thought we’d do a post all about autumn weddings, and give you a few ideas as to how you could theme your wedding in keeping with this.
You simply can’t go wrong with flowers. Although they are generally used at a lot of weddings and make for great decor on most occasions, having an autumnal floral theme is the perfect way to set the scene at your wedding. Flower arrangements are very much in keeping with the more natural sort of look. However, you should make sure that the flowers used look very autumnal, like in the colours for example, to create the authentic look that you desire. You could even have pinecones intertwined throughout the floral design to make it look really outdoorsy and realistic, and consistent with the theme.
Even though your autumn wedding is almost definitely going to be held indoors, there is nothing that creates an autumnal theme quite like bringing the outdoors into the venue. This makes it feel very authentic and immediately creates the perfect cosy atmosphere. As we touched on, things like flowers and foliage are one way to create this sort of theme. Furthermore, you could incorporate things like authentic wooden signs in and around the venue.
Every bride wants their own unique, perfect bouquet of flowers for their special day. One thing that could make this even more unique and tailored to the day, is to have an autumnal bouquet, with autumnal based colours and flowers. You want to have classy, striking, regal colours bringing your bouquet to life. This will be sure to fit in perfectly with all design aspects of the big day.
As with any wedding, the colour scheme is always important, and something that takes lots of careful consideration. In terms of venue decor, colours typically associated with autumn include things like burnt oranges and reds, warm bronze, dark greens, and subtle yellow and golden tones. This would be accompanied well with some subtle fairy lights as it helps to create the perfect autumnal atmosphere.
Colour scheme also applies to the dresses of the bridesmaids, along with the suits of the ushers and the groom himself. Of course, the bride will still be in a traditional white, dress, however you can opt for more of a boho sort of style of dress, with stunning, small details so that this looks visually fantastic amongst the rest of your guests’ dresses and suits.
An autumnal themed wedding offers an opportunity to have a bit more of a relaxed wedding, with a different menu including seasonal produce for your guests to indulge in. You should consider each part of the meal carefully, for example the perfect starter for an autumnal wedding would be some kind of delicious soup or broth – something that is very warming and fulfilling. The main course offers a chance for some perhaps not so traditional meals that would bode well with your running theme. Finally, something like a traditional apple crumble for dessert would be perfect, as this is quite a warm and comforting food that people particularly enjoy during the colder months. Aside from your menu, you may want to have some sweet treats available for guests throughout the day, like maybe toffee apples, or hot chocolate.
Every wedding cake is unique, but having an autumnal theme allows you to get that little bit more adventurous and creative. It means you can have more of an extravagant cake design that will fit in with the rest of the decor on the day. This could mean having some of the colours from your chosen colour scheme running through the icing, or perhaps you could have it topped with berries or fruits, and dressed with leaves running round the edges. It all depends on how subtle you want it to be, but you can have your cake designed exactly how you would like, meaning you can have any of these sort of themes running through as strong or as subtle as you like.
